Bankstown Doorknock #2: Community conversations for climate Justice

Join us for the second Bankstown Doorknock for members of the community concerned about climate change!

We will be having conversations with the public, talking with them about how climate change is affecting their community and families, and what they think our elected leaders should be doing about it. We will be talking about the importance of climate change in the upcoming election and inviting people to get involved in our grassroots movement.

People in Western Sydney are already feeling the heat from climate change. It will get much worse without urgent action to stop mining and burning coal and transitioning to 100% renewable energy.

In Western Sydney we experience heatwaves about 6 to 10 degrees hotter than on the coast. Without action on climate change the number of extreme heat days (over 35’C) in western Sydney could increase five-fold by 2090. This is not fair and puts our kids and the elderly at particular risk. Not to mention putting a huge strain on households that are already struggling with the rising costs of power.

If we stand together we can demand our local MP's take action on climate change now by stopping new fossil fuel projects, like the Adani coal mine, and having a plan to transition to renewable energy.

Things to know:
- Everyone is welcome
- We will run a training when you arrive in the park so you don't need any prior experience.
- Bring a hat, water-bottle and sunscreen
- We will provide everyone with clipboards and pens and any other equipment you might need - like convo guides & some snacks!

Let's make this the biggest climate doorknock Bankstown has ever seen!

This event is being in collaboration by AYCC & 350.org Australia.
We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land on which this event will be held, the Gweagal and Bidjigal people. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.
