Our federal politicians are holding secret meetings, trying to fund Adani's dangerous coal mine with public money. We know that building the world's largest coal mine will cook the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, and it will set us on a path for a world well beyond 2 degrees of global warming.
We have a rare chance. The Fight for our Reef team (led by our friends at the Australian Marine Conservation Society) will be heading to Poland, the site of the 2017 World Heritage Committee meeting. It’s a rare chance to show the world the global crisis our coral reefs face from climate change and coal.
We must show Malcolm Turnbull and his government that they are being watched next week - when they face the world and defend their actions.
We need everyone to join us Thursday morning on the steps of Prime Minister Turnbull's office to make sure that he knows we're not going away until we protect the reef and #StopAdani.
Wear: Red and Black to symbolise our reef in danger, including #StopAdani shirts if you have them
Bring: #StopAdani signs, go renewable signs, and your friends
We will also be launching the #StopAdaniChallenge at the action. This involves asking people of Wentworth four quick survey questions, to make sure that Turnbull knows that Adani must be stopped, and that the local community do not want to see public money spent on Adani's mine.
With your help, we could get a strong decision that pressures Turnbull to step up and #StopAdani by ruling out funding a coal mining billionaire and to act to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
The Fight for the Reef team are taking a global petition with them to Poland - with tens of thousands of your signatures, and hundreds of your stories - to show the Prime Minister and the Chair of the World Heritage Committee that Australians want action for our Reef. You can help get us to 50,000 voices calling for action - sign and spread the petition and we will show Turnbull on Thursday what is coming.
