Westpac has bowed to pressure and ruled out funding Adani. But now it has emerged that Commbank is Adani's transactional banker! Climate Action Moreland along with other Moreland-based groups and individuals will be protesting in Coburg on Friday May 12 at 12.30pm. We will start at Westpac Bank (482 Sydney Rd Coburg) at 12.30pm and give them a card acknowledging that they have made an important first step. Then we will move next door to CommBank and tell them that we want a firm commitment not to support Adani. We will ask Wills MP Peter Khalil (ALP) to join us. If he is unable to come, we will follow the CommBank march with a visit to Peter Khalil's office (400 m from Westpac). We are concerned that the Labor Party has not come out clearly against this coal mine. Peter Khalil has signed the Climate Emergency Declaration. This commits him to supporting strong, immediate action on climate change. The Adani coal mine will only accelerate climate change, and sets a precedent for other coal mines in the Galilee Basin.
