India's COVID crisis: Words can't describe
A message from South Asians of the Stop Adani movement
Words can't describe what is going on in India right now. This completely avoidable humanitarian crisis is going to leave generations scarred and devastated. Those of us in Australia are watching helplessly, hoping that friends, family, and loved ones are spared the worst fate by this pandemic.
We are in the thick of the disaster now, and the end of the worst is not yet in sight. As much as we feel outrage at the complete failure of political leadership that brought on this unprecedented crisis, we are also consumed by grief and fear. In this state of mind, our attention turns to the need of the hour, towards helping and showing care.
What you can do:
- Consider donating at these verified donation campaigns.
- Reach out to your Indian friends, housemates, neighbours or family members. Have a chat and see how they are coping. But if they do not feel like talking on this issue, respect and move on.
- If you have Indian colleagues, classmates or students, recognise that they might be struggling to get work or assignments done right now. Be supportive and empathetic. Check if they need to take time off.
Thank you for your compassion at this time,
Manjot, Ruchira, Varsha, Jess and Deepa
