Barcaldine screening of Guarding the Galilee
To coincide with the 2017 'Tree of Knowledge Festival' in Barcaldine, we're screening 'Guarding the Galilee' at the historic Radio Picture Theatre.
Barcaldine was the site of the famous Shearer's Strike in 1891 where meetings were held in the shade of a ghost gum in the town’s main street - which came to be known as the Tree of Knowledge.
Shearers formed into unions to fight for fair wages and resistence grew. Henry Lawson captured the mood in these" famous lines:
...We’ll make the tyrants feel the sting
Of those that that they would throttle;
They needn’t say the fault is ours
If blood should stain the wattle."
Today we promote peaceful protest and non-violent direct action.
Join us to find out what you can do to help stop Adani's destructive mine which threatens local water resources, farming, climate and the Reef.
