Adani fined by Queensland government for releasing polluted water into wetlands
March 26 2019
In February 2019 Adani released polluted stormwater from its Abbot Point coal port into the environmentally sensitive Caley valley wetlands. The pollution spill was the second breach of Adani’s environmental obligations at its coal port. The polluted water contained almost double the amount of debris allowed under Adani’s Environmental Authority. The Queensland government issued Adani a fine of $13,000. Over 200 species of birds inhabit the wetlands that Adani polluted, including several rare and threatened species.
